Cain & Skarnulis Volunteers at First Ever Expunction Expo

On Saturday, February 29, 2020, Cain & Skarnulis paralegals Patti Heaney and Scotti Beam volunteered their time at the first ever Expunction Expo hosted by the Travis County District Clerk’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and the County Attorney’s Office in connection with Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. Though 498 people applied for the expunction event, it was limited to 375 applicants. More than 50 lawyers volunteered for it.

The Expo assisted more than 350 people in filing paperwork to expunge their old arrests from their records thereby helping to clear the path for those individuals to obtain jobs, housing, or financial aid for college.  Expunction is a legal process where arrests or charges are removed from an individual’s criminal record. Patti and Scotti assisted attendees by helping them to complete forms and by distributing hearing date information to applicants.  Patti and Scotti are pictured with Velva Price, the Travis County District Clerk.
